|

On March 5th, 2024, our partner Aqualia organised their 3rd Community of Practice (CoP) meeting called “WATER↔ENERGY” in ULTIMATE. The event was held within the framework of our Case Study No. 5 in Lleida / Ostrava.

Expert professionals discussed the challenges and opportunities around the water cycle and the commitment to biomethane and green hydrogen to materialise the ecological transition of the sector.

During the Conference, relevant stakeholders involved in the development and implementation of value chains around the water and energy discussed the challenges and opportunities that arise in the management of the water cycle and the commitment to biomethane and green hydrogen to materialise the ecological transition of the sector that, without losing sight of other renewable sources, allow us to address current and future challenges in national and international initiatives.

Aqualia is responsible for the water cycle in Salamanca (Spain). Because of the strong and solid innovation activities of Aqualia in the water infrastructures, the City Council was invited to make an official opening of the CoP meeting, which had the title “Energy transition and decarbonisation in the integral water cycle”. Therefore Aqualia and the Salamanca City Council held the CoP meeting within the framework of the International Energy Efficiency Day to debate the challenges and opportunities that open up for the management of the water cycle in the current context of drought and climate emergency. The meeting was inaugurated by the mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo; accompanied by the director of the Aqualia Center Delegation, Ángel Luis Pérez Buitrago and Víctor Monsalvo, head of Aqualia’s R&D&I Eco-Efficiency Area and Coordinator of the Community of Practice, together with a high level of municipal, business and scientific and technological community representation.

After holding the technical sessions, attendees toured the facilities of the new Innovation Center in the Water Cycle located in the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of the city. During the visit, projects related to generation of renewable hydrogen and biomethane from biowaste were shown.

Speakers from Aqualia, agricultural sector, Mirat fertilisers, University of Salamanca, Madrid Regional Transport Consortium, Notergás Renovables, Heat & Power Biogas Services, Iveco España and Redexis participated in the CoP.
